A web site comes in three sections: -
1. A domain name
e.g. james.co.uk is the name your site will be called and other
Internet users will search for to find the site. These names are
unique in the world and there are organisations that control the
names e.g. Nominet in the UK.
JR Websites are members of Nominet this allows us a say in how the naming
system is run and also allows us to bring cheaper registration fees to
you the clients as we have direct access the naming registry.
When you have chosen your name a search must be made of the registry
to ensure it is not in use. If the name is available then we can register
it for you and there is a charge for this. This charge is kept as low
a figure as possible because JR Websites want as many people as possible
to have their own place on the internet and have a truly interactive experience,
whilst the children learn internet skills as early as possible.
2. A server on the Internet
where you can put your site files and Internet
users can find them. The Internet comprises of a very large number
of computers all interconnected around the world. In order that
your web site be available to Internet users it must be on one of
these connected computers. The owners of these computers are called
Internet Service Providers ISP for short and offer a large variety
of services.
JR Websites can provide you with this server space, called hosting, and
assist you in selecting what configuration you need.
3. The files that make up the web site.
These are the document pages
containing programming code that the Internet server uses to send
out web pages to clients. The coding can be very easy to do yourself
if you wish only a simple site but as the level of sophistication
increases so does the complexities of the languages used to create
the web site pages. There is now EEC legislation that sites must
comply with for example the Discrimination against the disabled
so making sites accessible for them, breaches of copyright etc.
JR Websites can provide web sites from a simple 3 or 4 page site
to a database e-commerce site with animations etc.

The cost of a site is in three parts:-
1. Domain name registration fee
This is payable either yearly or once every two
years depending on the type of domain name e.g. names ending in
.co.uk are registered for two years at a time where as .com are
for one year.
2. Hosting charges
These are annual fees and depend on services required
e.g. storage space, number of e-mail addresses and quality of hosting.
3. The cost of designing and publishing the site
These are once only payment unless any type of support is required.
